Silent sitting meditation
Sitting meditation is the central practice at Aro Ling

Silent sitting meditation

Silent sitting meditation is the foundation for everything we do at Aro Ling. We offer frequent, regular meditation classes and groups; see our calendar for details.

Whilst silent sitting is our core meditation practice, we also teach meditation involving physical movement, song, painting, calligraphy, and sky weaving, which are suited to different individuals, situations and life circumstances, and which complement silent sitting practice. We offer a wide variety of resources for learning and practising meditation, and teach a range of practices supportive to silent sitting, that help deal with the obstacles encountered when sat on a meditation cushion.

Roaring Silence is our introductory meditation course, and is suitable both for those who have had no experience with meditation, and for those who have begun but would like support or to deepen their practice. Several follow-on programmes teach more advanced meditation methods and explore the relevance of meditation to our lives. Commonly our courses are weekly evening classes, and non-residential retreats, along with some weekday programmes.

Aro Ling Members are welcome to drop in and use our shrine room free of charge for personal practice when no classes are taking place, and non-members may do so if staff are present.

Our free email meditation course delivers a series of weekly email instructions, a good complement to our in-person programmes. It covers meditation methods from beginning to intermediate, taking a practical, down-to-earth approach. It focusses particularly on the obstacles that all meditators face, and the antidotes for dealing with them.

The Aro meditation site offers additional resources, including recommended book titles, audio meditation instruction, and answers to frequently-asked questions.
