The Arts are an important aspect of the practice of Tantra. In the Aro gTér, a small Nyingma Lineage. practitioners create and improve their practice equipment to make their relationship with such equipment more powerful and personal. Craftwork may include: creating a mat upon which to place instruments and a songbook; creating a rainbow banner (chö-phen) to decorate and balance a drum; filing bells and drums to make them finer; making bags to protect instruments when travelling; framing a thangka; making a meditation strap (gom-tag), and so on. Other items that can be created are specifically craft as practice – such as the amulet shown in the image above, or namkha (woven thread cross) which weaves the elements of the emotions through the symbolism of coloured thread.

This afternoon session is open to all, and will be led by Ngakma Nor’dzin and Ngakpa ‘ö-Dzin, an ordained teaching couple with many years experience of teaching and practice. (Please see their Facebook page.) Ngakma Nor’dzin is an experienced craftswoman and holds an Honours degree in design.

Please bring your own tantric craft project. Instruction, and suggestions for projects, can be offered to people who are new or unfamiliar with tantric craftwork. Basic tools will be available, such as sewing machines, a dremel, files, etc. Materials are not generally provided, but some will be available to purchase at cost if needed.

Booking is not required, but do check the calendar a day or two before, or telephone, to check it is happening. Please also phone if you want to discuss a craft project.

A donation is requested.

Refreshments are provided for the tea break. The session is scheduled to finish at 17:00, but this is not a fixed end time. People may leave when they wish, or stay on beyond this time if they are thoroughly engrossed in their craftwork. A group take-away is always a possibility!
